Juan Santamaria is very much a part of Costa Rica's history. The Museum also holds special events for the public by bringing in other exhibits for display from other historical sources in the country. The large courtyard turns into a cultural treat periodically with vendors from around the country coming in to show their wares. The museum hosts many educational events, indoor & outdoor, which is always a treat for the whole family. If you like battle art, there are some wonderful pieces displayed and the guides give interesting details about the artist & depiction.
You will come out of the museum with a much better understanding as to why this young man is referred to as a hero in Costa Rica. Costa Rica does not have an army so the realization that they will take a stand upon inspiration is both heartening & courageous.
