Costa Rica is a predominantly Catholic society that takes religion very seriously. Dia de San Jose is an annual religious holiday that is celebrated in March each year to remember and pay thanks to the Patron Saint of San Jose. The entire country celebrates Dia de San Jose by going to mass, and spending time with family at the beach or in the mountains since most government and some private businesses shut down in observance of this holiday. Tourist will be happy to know that business that cater to them usually stay open and have normal business hours. If you would like to celebrate the Dia de San Jose while visiting Costa Rica stop by any church you are close to. They will welcome you with open arms and a warm smile. You may even be invited to a family get together after mass.
