Local
La Trocha Del Boyero translates as 'path of the ox cart driver.' Simply known as La Trocha today, the old road where it is located was the means of travel between Atenas and Rio Grande. A local couple took advantage of the opportunity to open a small restaurant on the road where people go out of their way to visit if they are in the area.
Serving typical Costa Rican food with a little flair of Caribbean influence, you can enjoy fish, chicken or meat dinners with all the regular trimmings as well as a full bar for cocktails, sodas and beer. Specialties include fish with shrimp sauce, chicken with a coconut sauce and a lomita (steak) that is excellent. If you have a big appetite, they offer a platter with mixed portions of beef, fish and chicken along with a tasty rice and bean side flavored with coconut. Salad, patacones and fries top off most of the dishes offered.
Very reasonable price for the amount of food you receive. The atmosphere is very pleasant with lots of smiles from the staff even though there may be a small language barrier.
